Prior to establishing Maloney Vision Institute, Dr. Maloney was at the UCLA School of Medicine associate professor of ophthalmology. Dr. Robert Maloney graduated with an AB in mathematics summa cum laude from Harvard University in 1979. Dr. Maloney graduated with a MA in philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford (England) University as a Rhodes Scholar in 1981 and as a MD from the University of California at San Francisco in 1985.
He has contributed more than one hundred articles, abstracts and reports to professional journals and delivered more than 200 invited lectures on five continents. Dr. Maloney was associate editor for the Journal of Refractive Surgery from 1991-95, on the international editorial board of the European Journal of Implant and Refractive Surgery in 1995 and is currently a reviewer for The American Journal of Ophthalmology; Ophthalmology; Archives of Ophthalmology; The Journal of Refractive Surgery and Ophthalmic Surgery and Lasers.
Dr. Robert K. Maloney is a former Heed Foundation fellow, a Heed/Knapp fellow, and a John Harvard scholar. He received the Research to Prevent Blindness Career Development Award, and the Mericos Whittier Award for lifetime contributions to Ophthalmology. Dr. Maloney has chaired or served as a member on several committees and subcommittees of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and won the academy's Honor award in 1993. Dr. Maloney also is a member of the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the California Association of Ophthalmology, the Max Fine Corneal Society and Phi Beta Kappa.
Dr. Maloney has amplified the eye sight of soldiers from all aspects of the American Military. Dr. Maloney is one of the top 10 lasik surgeons, as voted by his peers, and, Dr. Robert K. Maloney has completed more than 35,000 laser surgeries and has trained more than 700 surgeons in the use of the excimer laser. He was also awarded the prestigious Lans Award, for innovative contributions to the field of laser lasik eye correction.
